    Massachusetts Workforce and Labor Area Review 2018 – Hampden County WDA Highlights


    The MassHire Hampden Workforce Development Area’s (WDA) labor force grew by 2.5% during the 2018 calendar year and 4.1% since 2014. The labor force gains can be attributed to an increase in employed residents and a decrease in unemployed residents reflecting more people entering the workforce when comparing 2018 to last year and the four years prior. The 4.6% unemployment rate in 2018 is 0.5% points lower than the 2017 rate and is down 3.0% points from 7.6% unemployment in 2014.


    Active job postings in Hampden County have grown at a 5.5% annualized growth rate since January 2014, while unemployed residents have declined at -11.5% annualized growth rate. In July 2014 there were 0.4 active job postings per unemployed resident in this area and as of July 2019 there are 0.7 active postings per unemployed resident.
