  • Manufacturing Sheet Metal Fabrication Training Program for Western MA Residents

    The MassHire Hampden County Workforce Board (MHHCWB), in partnership with the Sheet Metal Workers Local 63 and the MassHire Springfield and Holyoke Career Centers are co-sponsoring a sheet metal fabrication training course for under-employed and unemployed individuals. The course is free of charge and consists of 160 hours of classroom and “hands-on” shop training. Recruitment for this training begins immediately with this late afternoon/ early evening training beginning in  April 2021 and ending in May/June 2021.

    This training program is funded by a grant from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development. The training is targeted towards unemployed and under-employed Western Massachusetts residents looking to change careers. “This is a great opportunity for an individual who always wanted to learn a construction industry occupation but training options were limited” states Larry Martin, Director of Business Services and Market Research for MassHire Hampden County Workforce Board. Opportunities for jobs in the service and manufacturing industries are also available in sheet metal fabrication.

    Training Program End Date: May/June 2021

    Training Days and Times: Monday – Thursday   4:30 pm to 8:30 pm

    Training Program

    • 160 Hours Total Training
    • 10-hour OSHA industry safety training
    • Fundamentals of metal fabrication and welding
    • Blueprint reading
    • Shop math
    • Using hand and power tools
    • Using standard shop fabrication equipment

    Participants must reside in Western MA, have a high school diploma or equivalent and meet resident and assessment eligibility requirements. A driver’s license is highly recommended for job opportunities.

    1. Complete page 1 the AMTP Fabrication 2021 Registration Form and return with your updated resume to Joanne Lyons at jlyons@masshirehcwb.com . Applications returned without a resume will not be reviewed. if you do not have a resume you can contact the regional career centers, Masshire Holyoke or Masshire Springfield for resume assistance.
    2. Your application and resume will be reviewed for completeness and minimum requirements. If you meet these requirements you will be scheduled for online assessment testing. Additional documentation will be required at this time. This online process will involve the Masshire Holyoke or Masshire Springfield career centers.
    3. Individuals that successfully complete the assessment testing and have met all documentation requirements will be scheduled for a Zoom interview with the program director. Applicants will be considered on a 1st come, 1st serve basis. Assessment scores will be one of the key determining factors for final selection.
