  • Construction Skills Training Program for Springfield Residents

    This training program is funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and is targeted toward specific areas of Springfield where there are higher concentrations of homes requiring mold, lead and energy efficiency repairs.

    This is the Healthy Homes program, a whole-home housing rehab program that will focus on home energy efficiency and environmental safety for residents. Eligible homeowners may apply for a 0% interest, forgivable loan, the funds from which would be used to complete a wide variety of home improvement jobs that will bring old homes up to city code.

    The No Cost Basic Construction Training is for unemployed city of Springfield Residents in the following neighborhoods: Brightwood, Memorial Square, South End, Metro Center, Six Corners, Old Hill, Upper Hill, Portions of Forest Park and portions of Liberty Heights.  Residency and income requirements will be confirmed for entry into this program

    Training Program Start Date:  Monday, September 16th, 2019

    Training Program End Date: Thursday, December 19th, 2019

    Training Program

    • Putnam Technical Academy-150 hours of basic training in safety, carpentry, sheet metal welding, HVAC and energy efficiency shills. OSHA-10 certification is included in the Putnam training, Training hours at Putnam are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 3:00pm-6:00pm. Tuesdays training is 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm.
    • ATC Group Services (West Springfield)-40 total hours’ certification training in as a certified lead-safe workers (24 hours), EPA/Mass Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting workers (8 hours) and Mold Remediation workers (8 hours). Training  to be held at ATC Services Group in West Springfield. Training hours at ATC are 7:45 am to 4:00pm. Lunch will be provided.
