  • CNC Milling Certification Training Program Begins December 2020

    The National Institute of Metal Working Skills (NIMS) CNC Milling Certification Training Program is a “Hybrid”  adult training program that is being introduced at the Westfield Technical Academy. This pilot training program will train ten (10) individuals to become entry-level CNC Milling operators and set-up technicians.  This program is unique in that it combines self-paced online learning, remote classroom delivery through the Google Meets Video platform and on-campus machine shop learning labs.

    This training program is for unemployed  Hampden County residents. Recruitment begins on Monday, October 19th, 2020. The minimum requirements for the program are as follows:

    Unemployed Hampden County Resident Have a high School Diploma or Equivalent Willing and able to work across Hampden County
    Have an active license and registered motor vehicle Have internet access Have an internet streaming capable device such as a tablet, laptop or computer desktop Mobile phones are not recommended for the best learning experience but will be considered
    Updated resume submitted with application Pass assessment testing Complete and provide all required documentation Successfully complete Zoom interview with program director

    Application Process

    1. Complete page 1 the AMTP 2021 Registration Form  (above in MS Word or PDF format) and return with your updated resume to Joanne Lyons at jlyons@masshirehcwb.com . Applications returned without a resume will not be reviewed. if you do not have a resume you can contact the regional career centers, Masshire Holyoke or Masshire Springfield for resume assistance. There are only 10 training slots for this program and it is anticipated it will fill up quickly, do not be delayed because of not having a resume ready for review
    2. Your application and resume will be reviewed for completeness and minimum requirements. If you meet these requirements you will be scheduled for online assessment testing. Additional documentation will be required at this time including proof of license and registered car. This online process will involve the Masshire Holyoke or Masshire Springfield career centers.
    3. Individuals that successfully complete the assessment testing and have met all documentation requirements will be scheduled for a Zoom interview with the program director. Applicants will be considered on a 1st come, 1st serve basis. Assessment scores will be one of the key determining factors for final selection so, for returning applicants, if you scored below the 9th grade on the TABE test, below “4” on any of the Work Keys Assessments or below 35 on the Bennett Mechanical test, you may want to request a retake to remain competitive.
    4. Individuals selected for the program will be required to attend a Google Meets or Zoom pre-training that will last about 90 minutes
